What to do if your chest hurts when you breathe?
Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room if you‘re experiencing pain while breathing, along with any of the following symptoms:
- loss of consciousness.
- shortness of breath.
- rapid breathing.
- nasal flaring.
- air hunger, or feeling as though you‘re unable to get enough air.
- gasping for breath.
- chest pain.
Why does my left chest hurt when I breathe in?
Pleurisy happens when the membrane, or pleura, that lines the inner side of your chest cavity and surrounding lung tissue becomes inflamed. This is commonly a result of a lung or respiratory infection. Symptoms include sharp chest pain. This pain is often worse with deep breathing, coughing, or sneezing.
