Cramping during early pragnancy at night

I am 4.5 weeks pregnant. The other night I woke up at 3 am with really bad cramps. I also went to the bathroom but felt cold sweats, really dizzy, nauseous and just reallly realllllyy sick. Since this is my first pregnancy I was really worried! After talking to a nurse I wondered if this could be gas related also, because it seems connected to using the bathroom. I can’t tell if the sick feeling comes from the pain of the cramps of the needing to use the bathroom. The paine goes away within about 5 minutes. It has happened a couple of times since then (including tonight at around the same time)and makes me scared to go to sleep.. it’s such an awful feeling! Although the nurse wasn’t sure what is causing it she said not to be alarmed when there isnt blood with it.

Hi ladies. I am 6 weeks and also experiencing the same cramping around 1 -2 am, bad enoughto wake me up. Somewhere I read to sleep on your left side with a pillow between your knees. I tried it last night and, maybe it was just a coincidence, but I didn’t wake up at all with cramping! I did wake up to pee, but that’s a different story. I noticed in the morning if I rolled over onto my back it would start hurting a bit. So try that and see if it helps. Good luck to all!

Try rubbing Vicks Vapor Rub on it.. the rub begins to heat up after a few seconds you rub it.. and makes the pain go away.

I am 7 weeks pregnant.. when I sleep at night.. i put a big pillow under my legs.. (making sure the knees are fully supported by the pillow)..

Vicks Vapor Rub makes the pain lesser til it’s gone… and i fall fast asleep 🙂

I am 4 1/2 weeks along and last night i had the worst cramps of my life! I was sweating, and even screaming it hurt so bad. I layed on the cold bathroom floor for liek 30 minutes until it finally went away. I think it muct have somthing to do with my bowels as well. I ended up using the bathroom alot. It finally went away though and i am really hoping t doesnt happen again! It was at aout 5:30 am and i couldnt sleep again afterwards. I know everyone says if you dont bleed it is fine, but i still might call my doctor, this is my first baby so i am kind of freaked out. Any more infomration would be helpful! thanks

Allison

I am having the exact same symptoms as those described above. I just got a positive home pregnancy test today and believe Iam around 3-4 weeks. The pain is so bad that it wakes me up at night, usually around 1am. Bowel movements seem to help, or maybe the pain would subside after 30 minutes anyway. These are not “mild” cramps; it’s to the point that I keel over in pain. Worried about ectopic pregnancy and not sure if I can wait until my doctors appointment in a few days before going to the ER with this pain. Will write back in a few days.

I just found out I am 4 weeks preganant and only
Found this our due to period like cramps happening at night. I have been seeing a doctor and they are also concerned that it could be an ectopic pregnancy however I get no pain during the day. The pain usually goes away when I walk around. I have a scan next week but it could all be normal and is just the womb expanding.
I hope everything goes ok with you.

I am at my 5th week of pregnancy and have been having mild cramping on and off since implantation, which I have been told is normal. The night before last I woke up at 2:30 AM with severe cramping. It really scared me. It was in the area of my uterus, but I then realized it could be digestive, so I ran to the bathroom. I could not do a number two or release any gas so I went back to bed. It lasted about 15 min and then the cramping reduced back to a mild level, and I went back to sleep. The next morning I released a lot of gas, so I’m thinking that’s what it was, plus my bowel movement appeared somewhat constipated. Last night after laying in bed a little while, it seemed like the cramping was increasing again…perhaps gas building up. Then I realized I had been laying there crunched up in the fetal position for a while. Once I stretched out my legs completely the cramping lessened, and I went to sleep. So one tip for reducing gas build up at night is not to sleep scrunched up. Maybe it causes gas to build up in one place or prevents it from being released at night (not sure how often I release gas at night, but my husbands tells me I occasionally do…lol!)? I plan to keep my legs at least fairly straight at night because I don’t want to experience that again. I also plan to exercise daily, drink plenty of water, and eat prunes to reduce/prevent constipation….anything to help prevent gas from building up.

Hey ladies – this site has helped me immensely and I wanted to let you know what I found out today at my docs. I have had the same symptoms and am about 5 or 6 weeks pregnant!
She said my uterus is tilted toward my colon and spine and can cause more pressure on those areas. I have also noticed that the more I sit scrunched, have to go to the bathroom or have gas I get cramps, but I did try laying straighter at night, drinking lots of water and go to the restroom as much I can and the cramps have subsided almost all the way. Now they are just dull and very sporadic. Everything was looking normal. She said as long as there is no spotting or bleeding, it may be just the normal changes of early pregnancy. Hope that helps you all. Of course you should see a doc to know for sure and no need to worry, Jesus is in control.

Hello,

I am very early in pregnancy with our first little bundle of joy. I’m a little over 4 weeks now. I also have pains but mine are very slight, similar to period pains but not as bad. And they only occur in the late afternoon/evening. As long as there is no bleeding and the pain isn’t severe its all fine. But ofcourse check it with the doctor if it concerns you. If its terrible pain I would definately say see the doctor.

Hi, I am 8 weeks pregnant and having severe stomach cramps during the whole night. Cramps have been for 5 nights now and I am tired and feel like I do not want to go to bed as I know what’s coming. Had everything checked and all ok medically. The advice that I was given is to take paracetamol only (not any other pain relief). The things that have made the night more bearable are; hot water bottle, cup of hot water before bed and not eating too late at night. Sleep propped up on your side, a low back rub if your partner is willing!!! I do think there is an element of trapped wind / constipation. Going for a short walk and keeping moving is great, and in sheer desperation last night I forced out several burps…this really did help me get a good couple of hours sleep. Not nice but trying everything to get a good nights rest! I’m hoping this is gonna get better soon!

Hello,

I just found out officially this passed Sunday evening that I am pregnant! Praise the Lord for this wonderful blessing :-). I believe I am at least 4 weeks pregnant. I am going to my doctor next month to confirm and make sure everything is ok. I have also had mild to bad stomach cramps more during the evening hours. It would wake me up straight from sleep. It could range at 12am or 4am.It does not last long maybe 10 minutes. Lastnight was the worse because I broke out in night sweats and just so uncomfortable. This pain lasted about 20 minutes then disappeared. I am not bleedingthankGod just have the cramps as if I was getting my period. Its totally normal. Itsthe uterus thickening and growing to prepare itself to hold a baby there for 9 months. Pretty amazing how the Lords creation works!Good luck to all the future moms out there!

God bless!

Hello ladies i realise that this thread is over a year old so you will all have bundles of joy by now, well done!

Please tell me that it gets better, i am 5 weeks gone and having the same issue, the cramps mostly come in the evening or night when im sat down for too long, it’s like a stabbing everytime i move, the Dr says it’s fine as long as no blood but im concerned about other things like it being eptopic or something.

This is so hard as im feeling really sicky and emotional and crampy and no one knows as we’re trying to keep it quiet until 12 weeks, and my OH says that it’s in my head as im not far enough along to experience ‘symptoms’
