If your touchscreen is frozen, does not respond to touch, or is completely black, that doesn’t necessarily mean something is wrong with your phone or tablet. It could be something as simple as a misbehaving app causing the phone to freeze, or cracks in the screen making it respond slowly or not at all.
Fortunately, there are some troubleshooting steps to try that can help resolve your issue without having to send your phone in for a service. By simply rebooting/ restarting your phone orupdating your softwareare a few things you can try to resolve your issue.We will guide you through a few troubleshooting steps to identify the issue and resolve it.

Please Note:Before continuing, remove all non-Samsung certified screen protectors, cases or any other accessory that may be touching the screen. Make sure the touchscreen is dry and clean, and remove gloves if you’re wearing them. The screen may not recognize touches through gloves or extremely dry and chapped fingers.
1Force the phone to reboot.
Press and hold theVolume downandPowerkey for 7 to 10 seconds to perform a forced reboot or soft reset.On phones without a dedicated Power key, press and hold theVolumedown key andSidekey for 7 to 10 seconds.
2Optimize device performance.
The Device care feature will improve your phone’s overall performance by scanning for wasted storage space and other potential issues. Navigate to and openSettings. TapDevice care, and then tapOptimize now.
3Check for a Software update.

Navigate to and openSettings. Swipe to and tapSoftware updateorSystem update. TapCheck for updatesorDownload and install. If an update is available, follow the on-screen instructions to complete it.

4Reboot the phone in Safe mode.

If you’ve entered Safe mode successfully, you’ll see Safe mode displayed at the bottom of the screen. If your phone operates normally in Safe mode, uninstall any appsthat were downloaded or updated just before it began having the issue. After uninstalling each app, restart the phone and see if it is functioning normally

2Inspect the mobile device for damage.
- If your screen is cracked or damaged but you are able to still use the touch screen or Power key, move on to the next step.

3Force reboot the device.
- If you have a dedicated Power key, press and hold theVolume downandPowerkey for about 7 seconds.
- To reset a device without a dedicated Power key, swipe down from the top of the screen using two fingers to openQuick Settings. Tap thePowericon, and then tapPower off.
4Charge the battery.
Using a Samsung charger, connectthe USB cable into the USB port. Connect the other end of the USB cable to the charger, and then plug the power adapter into a working power outlet.
Once it has charged for an hour, disconnect it and turn it on. Waituntil you see the Samsung Galaxy logo indicating it’s powering on.
- If your mobile device doesn’t turn on after charging, try a forced reboot again.
- If you still see a black screen, you can’t perform a forced reboot, or the device makes sound and vibrates (with the screen still black), service is required. Please visit our nearest Samsung Service Center (Malaysia) to request service. You can make your appointment here before heading to our service center to avoid long que.
